Firearm Safety and Basic Pistol Class

This class provides the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to learn to become a safe responsible firearm owner. The class is beginners’ level and no previous experience is necessary. The Three Basic Rules of Safe Gun Handling are emphasized. Students will learn how revolvers and semi auto pistols function and be able to identify the principle parts of each. Basic ammunition knowledge will be covered. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of pistol shooting including, proper grip, stance, aiming, trigger control, breath control and follow through. The course will cover firearm cleaning and maintenance, range basics and how to select a firearm. Hands on exercises will include learning to load and unload, cock and de-cock revolvers and pistols and clearing pistol malfunctions. For safety during these exercises no live ammo is allowed in the classroom. Students will get a chance to apply the pistol shooting fundamentals through practice exercises with SIRT and LASR activated shot reporter.

Since most students are interested in self-protection and concealed carry applications, fundamentals are taught with an approach that lays the groundwork for defensive pistol shooting. This class provides a safe, comfortable, enjoyable, learning environment in which those new to firearms can develop basic know how and confidence to be a safe competent firearm owner. Those completing the course will be issued an SVU Firearms Class Certificate. This class serves as qualification for our more advanced classes. Refuse To Be A Victim

The Refuse To Be A Victim® seminar is an award-winning crime prevention program. It’s a seminar that will help you improve personal safety strategies and will provide you with valuable information that you can apply in every area of your life. It is not a firearms or self-defense class. The single most important step toward ensuring your own safety is having a personal safety strategy in place before you need it. NRA’s Refuse To Be A Victim® program teaches the tips and techniques you need to be alerted to dangerous situations and to avoid becoming a victim. The seminar includes classroom instruction on a variety of crime prevention strategies, from criminal psychology to automobile crimes to cyber crime. Seminars teach about common weaknesses that criminals may take advantage of, and teaches a variety of corrective measures that are practical, inexpensive, and easy to follow. Strategies include home security, carjack avoidance techniques, cyber safety, and use of personal safety devices. Students will receive the Refuse To Be A Victim student handbook, NRA Refuse To Be A Victim® brochure, NRA Become A Refuse To Be A Victim® Instructor Brochure, Refuse To Be A Victim® Firearms Supplement, and a course completion certificate.

USCCA Concealed Carry Course

This is the Certified United States Concealed Carry Association Concealed Carry Course. It is a comprehensive course designed for anyone considering carrying a firearm as a self-protection tool. This course helps you to develop your own personal protection plan and understand conflict avoidance and situational awareness. It covers the basics of a self-defense firearm and teaches you defensive shooting fundamentals. It provides an understanding of the physiology of violent encounters; the legal aspects of using deadly force (including knowing what to do in the aftermath); and a guide to gear and gadgets. Examples of topics covered include: Recognizing Threats, Issuing Commands, When Left with No Other Choice, When the Right to Use Deadly Force Ends, Immediate Aftermath, Phone Calls to Make, When Police Arrive, Statements to Police (During and After your Arrest). All participants receive a copy of Concealed Carry & Home Defense Fundamentals textbook by Michael Martin which retails for $30. Individuals completing the course will receive a USCCA completion certificate.
Class instruction will be followed up by simulation exercises using SIRT Pistols to teach basic defensive shooting fundamentals such as grip, stance, presentation, trigger discipline, sighted and unsighted fire.

We are also adding a first aid section which is specifically focused on response to injuries which may occur during the course of a defensive response to an attack.

NRA Home Firearm Safety Course

The course goal is to teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for safe handling and storage of firearms in the home. There is no shooting in this course. It is at least four hours of instruction on safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only. Students are taught NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling, primary causes of firearm accidents, firearm parts, how to unload certain action types, ammunition components, cleaning, care, safe storage of firearms in the home and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Home Firearm Safety, NRA Gun Safety Rules Card, Basic Firearm Training brochure and a course completion certificate.
